Yang’s project for Rolls Royce’s art programme aptly named Transient Materiality showcases her representation of the natural world. The ethereal sculpture is inspired by the subtle intricacy of animal skin patterns and the structural resilience of translucent dragonfly wings. It is intertwined by ribbons of a synthetic biopolymer produced with liquid particles collected from the ocean and bound with a photosynthesised algae extract. An accompanying film enables viewers to immerse themselves in her creative process through a 3D lens.
